This expanded map combines two sources to show a fuller picture of ICE detention in the United States.

The core ICE map covers approximately 390 facilities reported in ICE’s annual detention statistics (FY2010–FY2026). This version adds facilities visible only in the Deportation Data Project’s daily population records (FY2024–FY2026): hold rooms at ICE ERO field offices, county jails under short-term intergovernmental agreements, federal and state prisons, staging facilities, and CBP processing sites.

Circle size represents average daily population (ADP). Color indicates facility type. Open facilities are shown in saturated colors sized by their most recent ADP; closed facilities appear in desaturated tones. Facilities with peak population below 2 (brief transits or one-off transfers) are hidden by default — toggle them on with the Low population (peak < 2) layer control.

Reading the popup charts

Each facility popup shows an ADP bar chart across all available fiscal years. Bar color indicates data source:

  • Gray bars — ICE annual statistics (FY2010–FY2026, minus FY2018)
  • Blue bars — Deportation Data Project daily counts (FY2024–FY2026)
  • Gray + blue pair — Both sources present but ADP differs by more than 25%; gray shows ICE figure, blue shows DDP figure

Facilities with only gray bars appear in ICE annual reports but were not matched in DDP data. Facilities with only blue bars are absent from ICE annual statistics — these are largely the hold rooms, jails, and staging sites that ICE does not publicly report.
