  1. Colonial Israel, theocratic Iran, and monarchical Saudi Arabia are all morally indefensible in their present forms. We shouldn't be allies with any of them, fighting wars among them, or sending bombs to them.
  2. I can't say this clearly and often enough: People who want to defeat Trump should make a Plan B beyond nominating Biden. A contingency in case, say, the US is in an unpopular war in Lebanon, or facing $8 gasoline, or Gaza is still being destroyed when it's GOTV time in Michigan.
  3. Endorsing this from Jill Filipovic's response to October 7 gender violence: "One can both face the mountain of evidence of sexual violence on Oct. 7 and confront the staggering Palestinian death toll…

And there’s some truth in that, quite frankly.” euronews.com/2023/12/14/european-union-has-lost-credibility-on-israel-and-palestine-says-irelands-pm
  9. To me the most interesting thing about Hannah Arendt's critical stance towards Zionism is that it followed her fierce advocacy for Jewish participation in military resistance to the Nazis. She believed in Jews fighting their enemies, but cautioned against creating new ones.
  10. There's flooding in Gaza City and this makes the whole bombing, invasion, and re-occupation more cruel, and makes mu more upset than the last dozen atrocities I've read about. #CeasefireNow #Withdrawal #NoMilitaryAidToIsrael

  11. The assault on Gaza is unspeakably bad and I oppose the US arming and funding it. But I'm also worried about sending $14B in weapons to a government that has threatened to "turn Beirut into Gaza" and "return Lebanon to the stone age" should war escalate on that front.
  12. Someone explain to me whether this means the United States might pay for more of the Gaza War than Israel does. Then recalculate in light of existing military aid. Is this really happening? x.com/CarwilBJ/status/1734786468155957457

  14. Did any journalist take the chance of a Biden/Zelensky press event to ask… Does the US support or oppose military occupation? Does it recognizes the right to resist occupation by force?
  15. Did any journalist take the chance of a Biden/Zelensky press event to ask… Does the US supports or imposes military occupation? If it recognizes the right to resist occupation by force?
  16. At least part of the reason that an Islamist political party is currently in a dominant role in Palestinian resistance is the failure of any non-Islamist state in the region to materially aid the Palestinian cause. x.com/CarwilBJ/status/1732954430763409772
  17. The idea that Israelis have the right to self-defense against terrorism, but Palestinians do not enjoy the same right to self-defense against overwhelming devastation is either blind to human suffering or catastrophically racist or both.
  18. Mass killings of entire families is not just a pattern in the attack on Gaza, but clearly an intentional strategy. Expanding on "power targets" (= apartment buildings and civil society structures), and on "targeted assassinations" (bombing leaders' homes)… x.com/MuhammadSmiry/status/1732374520411881560
  19. IDF really has no idea how many of its 15,000-plus air strikes actually killed Hamas fighters. x.com/wsbgnl/status/1732285495953211894
  20. Israel, which imposed a 24-year "buffer zone" inside Lebanese territory, and has maintained another inside Gaza since 2007, is having trouble claiming a new one would be "temporary." x.com/MairavZ/status/1731566194119921963

  22. The USA and NATO spent a whole damn year publicly debating which weapons to give Ukraine to attack military targets but now have a whole new standard where "friends give friends [Israel]" exactly those weapons currently being used to demolish apartment blocks.
  23. This isn't journalism. NYT's David Leonhardt isn't "explaining" recent polls, he's struggling to square them with an Israeli talking point. As a result, he's puzzled over the "inconsistency" that Americans "do not want Palestinians to keep dying."

  24. In this announcement, Jewish protest group If Not Now does something subtle but revolutionary: it treats the 150 Palestinians prisoners, largely arbitrarily detained children, as the equals of Israeli hostages. Because both deserve freedom, both have families waiting for them. x.com/IfNotNowOrg/status/1727152822167212203

  26. I spend a lot of time considering the political motivations of people who authorize and enable mass state killings. But the null hypothesis should be this: they are racists who view the victims as less than human. x.com/itslaylas/status/1726986614591885484
  27. Netanyahu vows ongoing occupation/military intervention in #Gaza: "There is also an additional condition that I have for the day after. The IDF will have complete freedom of action in the Gaza Strip against any threat." youtube.com/watch?v=wXPisGgtnj4 (at 6m22)

  32. In 31 days, the death toll in #Israel–#Gaza war blew past the genocidal massacre in Srebrenica, confirmed (but not total) civilian deaths in the invasion of Ukraine, and all prior Israeli–Palestinian conflict deaths since 1987. woborders.blog/2023/11/08/the-scale-and-pace-of-death-in-israel-gaza-war-are-staggering/

  39. This is NOT just another cycle of the Israeli–Palestinian conflict. The intensity and pace of death vastly exceeds all events since the 1967 war. Deaths in October exceed all conflict deaths since 2008, or the two Intifadas combined, or two 9/11 attacks.
