  6. Bolivia is a country that has mastered the art of self-sacrificial protest, something that is valued even when simulated, as in these tiring but not damaging self-crucifictions and hunger strikes with rotating participants.( x.com/ErbolDigital/status/1762604203585806412
  7. Re: protest suicide and the alternatives… In April 2000, four Indigenous members of the Colombian legislature began a hunger strike. One week later, the National Indigenous Organization of Colombia wrote this letter asking them to "stop the collective suicide" Here's why…
  8. One thing Aaron Bushnell's self immolation reveals, and forces us to confront, is the mind of someone who has chosen to place his life alongside those being killed daily with our country's weapons. And to declare that his life isn't worth more. This alone disrupts normality.
  9. US Air Force personnel were deployed to Israel in November to assist targeting in Gaza. theintercept.com/2024/01/11/israel-air-force-targeting-intelligence/
  10. If you think that Islamist suicide bombers are Islamist, and misogynist mass shooters are misogynist, but Aaron Bushnell was mentally ill and not an anti-imperialist, maybe you're making up a diagnosis because you disagree with his politics.
  11. Look… [academic researcher of social movements hat on here] 1. Suicide protest is uncommon, but well articulated. It has happened hundreds of time. Enough for us to draw some patterns. / cite coming at end of thread

  12. I don't judge Palestinian Americans unwilling to vote for Biden now, any more than I would (hypothetically) judge feminists if Biden was locking up 200 women a day for having abortions. The solution to voter revulsion is to change the candidate or the policy that's losing them.
  13. There's no evidence that Walter Benjamin, Stefan Zweig, Thích Quảng Đức, or Lee Kyung-hae were mentally ill.
  14. The most appropriate role for an airman to respond to "indiscriminate bombing" (Biden's words) is to patrol a no-fly zone to prevent a city from being destroyed. But our country didn't give Aaron Bushnell that option.

  17. In a world where all human lives were valued equally, we would be debating whether Palestinians deserve fighter jets to defend themselves, not whether they deserve flour to feed themselves.
  18. Think about the standard that led to the UN imposing an arms embargo on South Africa… in 1964. The US voting to make it mandatory in 1977. And the US actually ending arms sales in 1986.
  19. Just devastating reporting by French newspaper Libération on the 70 Palestinians killed alongside the Superbowl night hostage rescue operation in Rafah. 22. So, a competent but still immoral Biden administration could have said we're conditioning aid2Israel on not bombing the health & food infrastructure, on restoring electricity & water service. And still been the most Israel-aligned US presidency. Just fewer people would be dead. x.com/RamAbdu/status/1760626903176651035
  23. Given the choice between being a minority who defends itself by insisting on equal rights for all, and a local majority in a land with second-class citizenship for others, I'd choose the former, despite the price in safety. x.com/BriannaWu/status/1760319252639195401

  31. At least 67 Palestinians were killed in airstrikes designed as "a diversion" to rescue 2 hostages. My faith in a humane future will be increased each time I hear an Israeli say this is a trade they refuse to accept. I'll add statements when I see them. But 0 so far. pls RT

  33. No citizen or nation that possesses fighter jets and bombers is in any moral position to criticize armed guerrilla movements for building tunnels.
  34. The possibility that a Zionist state would reference term an attack plan on 1.5M civilians as "evacuation" and be met with concern by a German state that has armed and diplomatically defended it using the phrase "cannot vanish into air." Mind-boggling. Historically haunted. x.com/GermanyDiplo/status/1756283599785988470

  39. I'm seeing lots of responses that amount to "Of course we can't risk our lives to save their lives." Which isn't a moral case at all. All decisions in the face of this horror are hard, but changing the color and nationality of who is being attacked would be consequential. x.com/oliver_yates1/status/1754957863439450209
