Six thoughts on Trump’s anti-globalist announcement on the #ParisAgreement:
-
1. We now have a president who believes all the talking points that were written to snow people about global warming.
-
2. Trump has no idea about the relative meaning of numbers beyond small/tiny and large/huge. He pitches $1B as huge waste of tax money.
-
3. Even more foreboding, here is a white nationalism that hates Europe. "Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania not Paris, France."
-
Anti-European white nationalism is epically weird. But it’s also the white nationalism of settler colonies: pied noir or Rhodesians.
-
It resonates weirdly with Putin on horseback, Dylan Roof with his Rhodesian flag, and Confederate dead enders.
-
4. While many have the impulse to paint climate policy in patriotic colors, but maybe there's something to embracing cosmopolitanism.
-
We need to live in a more expansive world where US Americans can learn from others.
-
The recent uptick in Tennesseeans’ support for universal health care is built on foreign examples. If Canada can have it, why not us?
-
Also, the emotional heart of wanting to fix climate change is love for others, not love for self.
-
5. Hatred of foreign aid is an intense theme. We have to talk honestly about global inequality…
-
Otherwise, we can’t sell the truly massive amount of resource shifting necessary for Paris and its successors.
-
6. Trump's angle against redistribution is resentment from people who think redistribution passed them by.

If we want a transition for India & Africa, we need a transition for Appalachia and the Bakken w/in the USA
