@AricToler This a very important story and does a little to bridge the gap between the war many of us are seeing through independent sources and the war as reported by mainstream US outlets. However...

@AricToler This section devoted to the IDF responses is evidently false, per ongoing reporting elsewhere.

@AricToler On Sunday, @haaretzcom reported the IDF has admitted supplying a large Telegram channel (named after an Islamophobic trope) with hundreds of such videos for propaganda purposes. This reversed prior denials. haaretz.com/israel-news/security-aviation/2024-02-04/ty-article/.premium/israeli-army-its-admits-staff-was-behind-graphic-gaza-telegram-channel/0000018d-70b4-dd6e-a98d-f4b6a9c00000

@AricToler @haaretzcom Thus the whole narrative of out-of-control sharing by soldiers on the ground misses the mark.
-
@AricToler @haaretzcom Even before this revelation, it was clear that this phenomenon could only balloon if IDF soldiers had complete confidence there would be no repercussions for their recordings. In fact, an implicit point of the videos is "we will violate these norms as much as we please."
