      There's no obvious way to extend the Cruceño economic model of large-scale agroexport to the highlands. The land of imported tractors doesn't need an industrial proletariat. Neoliberalism, cited here, remains a toxic term for many Bolivian voters.

    Luis Fernando Camacho was able to handily win governor of Santa Cruz but his 2020 presidential bid attracted only 14% nationwide. A stronger effort back by Snata Cruz but fronted by Manfred Reyes Villa got 25%

      The clear lesson of the 2019 election, where Carlos Mesa cleared 35%, is that the right's best hope is to offer social democratic policies without the MAS partisanship. And for some right wing voters go fall in line.
