    1. Just screened @errolmorris's The Fog of War to my political anthropology students. It was almost everyone's first encounter with US firebombing of Japan. Comparisons with US cities are devastatingly effective.

      The class had read Mike Davis' "Berlin's Skeletons in Utah's Closet" on the German-Japanese Village that the US government to practice setting Axis cities on fire. Davis terms it "a crash program of incendiary experimentation on exact replicas of working-class housing."
