    A significant step towards Fort-Whiteman's ultimate condemnation by Stalinism was his advocacy for seeing race as working alongside class, including from a podium of the Comintern.

      Ultimately, though, independent thought and independent reading circles, as well as a Black comrades allegations of his unorthodoxy seem to have sent him into exile, and later the labor camps that worked him to death.
