      Large nuclear reactors have already been priced out by renewable power plants, which are cheaper and don't require a decade to build.

    There may (or may not) be social and technological solutions to long-term nuclear waste, but it's clear that SMR's only make this problem more challenging.

      It's hard to justify substantial investment in a new nuclear technology that fails to overcome one of the key challenges of the existing technology, when renewables (plus storage) currently outshine both.
