          1. If getting a reputation as an abuser merits $15 million in compensation, how much exactly would compensate for living with actual abuse for years?

Even if one were to accept the most cruel and conspiratorial anti-Amber Heard interpretations out there, Johnny Depp never had to wake up in fear for his safety due to this op-ed.

I haven't had the time this month to digest all the arguments and evidence, but I am sure that reputation is not as precious as actual bodily integrity and safety.

It seems deeply unsettling that a basically infinite dollar value is being put on one sentence of veiled accusation.

Six years ago Depp and Heard stated “Our relationship was intensely passionate and at times volatile, but always bound by love. Neither party has made false accusations for financial gain. There was never any intent of physical or emotional harm.”

In a world where those sentences are true, and where Depp settled for $7 million (given to a DV charity and the ACLU), I don't see how Heard's op-ed is a $15 million violation.

Or rather this imbalance only makes sense in a world where a man's reputation is equated with his life ("she took my life away").

Meanwhile, actual victims of abuse (whether or not you believe Heard is one of them) are seen as less damaged by daily terror than famous men who lose their reputations.
