@sophiacbess @realLandsEnd @avierkant @jfeldman_epi The efficacy number are frankly bad for 5-11 as well wi Omicron. 12-24% efficacy against infection / "non-critical COVID."

@sophiacbess @realLandsEnd @avierkant @jfeldman_epi 1. "During the January 24-30 week, VE for children 11 years was 11% (95%CI -3%, 23%) and for those age 12 was 67% (95% CI: 62%, 71%)." medrxiv.org/content/10.1101/2022.02.25.22271454v1

@sophiacbess @realLandsEnd @avierkant @jfeldman_epi 2. "During the omicron period, vaccine effectiveness was 79% (95% CI, 51 to 91) against critical Covid-19, as compared with 20% (95% CI, −25 to 49) against noncritical Covid-19 (Figure 3). Sample sizes were insufficient for subgroup analysis involving children 5 to 11 years"

@sophiacbess @realLandsEnd @avierkant @jfeldman_epi While we're still seeing significant protection against severe disease, kids under 12 are effectively wide open for infection. Kids with grandparents/vulnerable family members need a mask mandate.

@sophiacbess @realLandsEnd @avierkant @jfeldman_epi A full course of the 5-11 vaccine is likely three shots and that's under consideration right now.
