        Mearsheimer's critique of the pro-Israel lobby and support of Palestinian statehood has always been largely about power politics and political convenience. It wasn't a statement of moral principles.

          In essence he argued it was easier to confront Iraq or de-nuclearize Iran with more Arab states on side, and the whole Israeli occupation put a damper on that.
