    @AdamKemmisBetty That's a very reasonable question, and I hope to give a quantitative answer eventually. However, we can say clearly that the left UDP (1982–85) and MAS-IPSP (2006–19) did not face less protest than the neoliberal presidents between them.

      @AdamKemmisBetty Urban and Rural blockades are one reasonable proxy for disruptive protest, but the diamond line here of confrontations/takeovers/riots, might be better. Same pattern, more or less.

        @AdamKemmisBetty If we take out Carlos Mesa's term (he was responsible for just 3 killings by state security forces, out of 239), then the shortened neoliberal period from 1985-2003 is marked by clearly fewer protests than faced by either left party.

          @AdamKemmisBetty Public vows by the Siles, Mesa, Rodríguez, and Morales to avoid deadly repression seem to have both led to major increases in the frequency of disruptive protest and declines in deaths relative to other presidents.
