      The current attachment to Russia among some leftists is circumstantial, rather than ideological. Putin's Russia is a capitalist power ruled by a police state. It renounces rather than celebrates communism.

          But Syria and Ukraine mark watershed moments to rethink this fool's alliance. As with the Stalinist Communist parties of Western Europe, failure to do so will not be remembered kindly by people awake to the atrocities of Russian state.
