The artists profiled speak back in the face of the Pinochet coup and the invasion of Grenada, and in the struggle to reassert feminist, Indigenous, and Black liberation within revolutions of the Caribbean and Central America.

In her introduction, Amich promises: "these late 20th century utopian performances anticipate and contribute to an activist and critical turn to vulnerability in the twenty-first century."

The work of the book and the artists it profiles is enlarging the potential subject of revolution to include the vulnerable, and vulnerability itself, rather than figuring revolution as self-improvement of the already heroic subject.
