So far, I have seen two statements about the death, from Comcipo and the clinic involved, CIES. Comcipo is hostile and sufficiently unusual to raise questions about its accuracy. CIES says essentially "no comment." eldeber.com.bo/pais/potosi-cierra-la-segunda-jornada-de-paro-con-15-heridos_254323

Comcipo, the Potosí Civic Committee, who fought with campesinos for the city's central square today, issued this comment: "We know that a person has died, a 25-year old who had choked on their coca, surely while running away … elpotosi.net/mundo/20211109_comcipo-informa-de-un-fallecido-y-un-herido-en-terapia-intensiva.html

"… There were no signs of violence, and I regret very much that there was a death on the side of our campesino brothers." Further comments alleged that the campesinos were given alcohol, money, and chile pepper [meals] to cajole them into protests.

This is a statement so full of hostility and stereotypes that (1) any sincerity to the claimed lament of the death rings hollow; (2) it's hard to take the claim that the death was accidental rather than caused by violence at face value.

Meanwhile CIES clinic official said, "We are here with the police and awaiting the prosecutor's office. We cannont give any more statements." eldeber.com.bo/pais/potosi-cierra-la-segunda-jornada-de-paro-con-15-heridos_254323

If the death was indeed an incidental episode in a day of major confrontations, someone far more neutral than Comcipo will have to come forward and confirm that. If, on the other hand, the death was an act of violence, the Comcipo statement constitutes both insult and injury.

Could medical authorities cover up or deny violence done to campesino protesters in urban settings? There's ample precedent in the mistreatment of protesters following the Senkata massacre, as documented by the GIEI report. mobile.twitter.com/CarwilBJ/status/1429485450222346255

So now, we wait for clarity and clarification as to whether this death was a violent act, and who is responsible if it was.
