    Damián Condori, a peasant leader who built an independent party when he was passed as MAS-IPSP candidate for governor in 2015, is facing a tight runoff today in Chuquisaca. He will dominate the Sucre vote, then expect a nailbiter.

      Santos Quispe, the son of renowned indigenous leader Felip Quispe (“El Mallku”), is challenging in La Paz. And Regis Richter, another candidate sidelined by the MAS, is the challenger in Pando.

        Depending on the outcome, the MAS-IPSP could control between 3 and 7 departmental governments, and independent left challengers could be shut out or could govern as many as 3.

          Three independent left candidates also will govern El Alto, Trinidad, and Cobija as mayors: Eva Copa, Cristhian Cámara, and Ana Luisa Reis. All are former MASistas who ran against the party this time.
