  1. This sentence from Joe Biden to an eight-year-old at last night's town hall is both false and dangerous: "You're not likely to be able to be exposed to something and spread it to mommy and daddy, and it's not likely for mommy and daddy to be able to spread it to you."

And it's wrapped up in such reassuring sweetness—"Don't be scared, honey. Don't be scared."—that it's actually being shared as an example of Biden's goodness.

We (the United States of America) now stand at 3,033,370 total child COVID-19 cases, 13.0% of all cases. (American Academy of Pediatrics: services.aap.org/en/pages/2019-novel-coronavirus-covid-19-infections/children-and-covid-19-state-level-data-report/ )

Detailed surveillance in the UK, compiled by the Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies, shows that children are often the first in their family to get COVID and better at spreading it to others than adults.

Children under 12 are only half as susceptible (chance they develop symptoms) as adults, but they are "more than twice as likely to pass on the virus within their household." Misinformation isn't goodness. And it certainly isn't "sticking to the science." Please don't pass on this Biden interaction because it's nice to have a president who is personally kind.

Instead pass on the information that can keep children and their parents safe. And insist the president of the United States do so too.
