                1. Local anti-MAS crowd sets fires in home of former MAS Deputy Muriel Cruz during dispute over who should be Montero's mayor. Arson at/of political opponents' homes is still a thing, 13 months after the tactic (re)appeared in this same town during the 2019 crisis. @mrtommybecker/1328872336192401410

MAS-led council voted to replace interim mayor Miguel Ángel Hurtado with Teresita Paz Saucedo (MAS). The dispute was local, so Muriel Cruz was not directly a party to it. This is partywide vengeance. eldeber.com.bo/santa-cruz/el-mas-vuelve-a-tomar-el-control-de-la-alcaldia-de-montero-tras-destitucion-de-miguel-angel-hurtado_209020

The replacement followed the demands of the local parents' association for a better meal program. Meanwhile, Luis Camacho (Santa Cruz Civic Committee/Creemos) attacked a non-MAS councilwoman for going along with the replacement. eldeber.com.bo/santa-cruz/el-mas-vuelve-a-tomar-el-control-de-la-alcaldia-de-montero-tras-destitucion-de-miguel-angel-hurtado_209020

Sequence then was (as far as I can tell)… 1. False rumors that MAS protesters had killed anti-MAS protesters 2. Anti-MAS burn homes of MAS partisans 3. MAS shooters kill 2 anti-MAS protesters 4. Anti-MAS burn more homes of MAS partisans

Weeks later, under President Áñez police brought firearms to a renewed clash among politically polarized neighbors, shooting a pro-MAS youth, Roberth Ariel Calisaya Soto, on November 13.

Note that some of the anti-MAS partisans in the October 2019 clashes, including the two people killed, were in the UJC, the right-wing youth org from Santa Cruz formerly headed by Camacho.

The MAS-IPSP won a very narrow plurality vote in Montero last month 44% to Camacho/Creemos' 41%. 13% went to the CC.
