          Military intimidation and a dramatic grab of state power have bought the Bolivian right (and even its centrist candidate) less than zero votes, despite twelve months of trying and over three dozen deaths last October/November.

        In the end, the Bolivian state is still weaker than the Bolivian society, something I wrote a whole book arguing, but admit I deeply doubted during the dark days of massacre.

      Luis Arce and David Choquehuanca won this victory by winning back voters the Morales government had lost between 2014 and 2019, largely in its highland, indigenous heartland.

    Much is not sure yet, and fundamental changes are needed to make the MAS-IPSP a vehicle for socialism and a political instrument of the poor and marginalized again (if that is still possible). But a new day is coming for Bolivia.
