#BoliviaEnCrisis #torture Bolivian institute for supporting torture victims (ITEI): The interim government tortured at least 96 people during repression of November protests after Evo's ouster. paginasiete.bo/nacional/2020/6/3/itei-documento-96-casos-de-tortura-violencia-de-estado-durante-los-hechos-de-senkata-257308.html
-
ITEI: People detained after Nov 11/12 protests in defense of the wiphala indigenous flag were "terribly beaten, terribly mistreated."
-
ITEI: Arrests that were followed by torture stretched from the aftermath of Evo's ouster at least through the Senkata massacre.
-
Forms of torture include severe physical beatings, stress positions, physical and psychological mistreatment, threats to kill prisoners or "leave them to rot," and sharing of their photos inaccurately labeled as seditious terrorists.
-
And also: electrical current, concentrated exposure to tear gas, sexual groping, forbidding access to bathrooms, and leaving prisoners in their own waste, among other acts of inhumane and degrading treatment.
-
The interm military-led government and that of Jeanine Áñez are both implicated in this pattern of torture of opponents, which was clearly widespread and continued well after arrest in some instances.
-
ITEI has access to provide support and take testimonies from people inside Bolivian jails. It reports that some abused remain incarcerated, presumibly awaiting trial.
