A pseudo-scandal circulating in Bolivia since Morales' ouster is the allegedly "outrageous" salaries paid to Cuban medical brigades. Apparently US$12,000 per year. @entrammbasaguas/1234247091351846914

Cuba isn't a rich country though its GDP/capita is about twice Bolivia's. If descriptions are accurate, Cuba's medical brigade offered Bolivia skilled labor in exchange for hard currency.
-
Which makes sense since Cuba has invested heavily in training medical professionals and faces a currency crisis bc of the US embargo.
-
Also, per outraged comments, Bolivians wish their doctors could have these jobs. I'm skeptical given that Bolivian public sector doctors demand bonuses and shortened hours to work in rural areas.
-
It may also be the case that the Cuban doctors brought public health and development support skills not possessed by typical medical school graduates.
