Wikipedians: Many new editors are good-faith producers of content that deserves broader circulation. Your particular knowledge set may not prepare you to sort out the wheat from the chaff on areas you don't know well.

Also, it's sensible to explain to new editors whose work you reject how they could make the grade and how they can appeal your decisions.

Non-editors: Wikipedia is inundated with vandalism and self promotional content. Most people scanning new articles don't see themselves as grading your essays but as taking down the daily flood of advertising flyers from the library walls.

Also, Wikipedia is not like a library or customer service operation. It's more like Occupy or Burning Man. Not every person who responds to your post speaks on behalf of the organization and there are always others to appeal to or ask for help.
