#BoliviaEnCrisis Defenders of democracy in Bolivia need to head off the scenario of a President Áñez without any legislative review, as now proposed by her allies for after January 21. A president w/o a legislature could only rule by decree. @CarwilBJ/1210708252503236613

Aside from the obvious democratic deficit, the current electoral calendar means that Áñez would almost certainly decree an extension of her own term for months, producing a dangerous interregnum between elected governments.
-
Some of these problems are just logistical. So if Áñez was planning them by agreement with the plurality party and other social sectors, no crisis would loom. But from her first day, Áñez has used legal and parliamentary maneuvers to supplant dialogue. She has earned mistrust.

But at the moment, the only negotiations between Áñez and the MAS-IPSP are happening through parliament. Deactivating parliament would deepen the lack of institutional foundations and popularly elected leadership that have existed since the military pushed Evo Morales to quit.
