            1. So, I've been reading a bit about Southwest Key Programs, the leading detainer of immigrant children in the US, with 5,100 kids in its 26 facilities. I have some suggestions for investigative journalists…

This is a LOT of compensation for a program that is 80%+ administering child detention facilities. While @SouthwestKey is arguing its proportionate to the budget, does housing more kids require more from these executives? (FY 2016 990)

Southwest Key is an unusual nonprofit in that it owns a for-profit company, Southwest Key Enterprises, which in turn owns a charter school where it operates. Someone should figure out how the money flows.

A lot of these Southwest Key Enterprises look like they sell low-cost service work to business clients. Meanwhile Southwest Key's nonprofit arm provides job training and job placement services. Are they placing their own kids in these jobs and profiting from them?

Conversely, are any of these enterprises getting pass throughs from government contracts, thereby making a profit for a nonprofit organization?

More fundamentally, what distinguishes Southwest Key from a for-profit detention company, other than the fact that the profits are taken as salary by a few principals?

I realize all these questions are speculative, but we're now talking about an organization with a $400M budget that had a $61M budget in 2011.

Want to know some nonprofits with a smaller budget than Southwest Key? Make-A-Wish Foundation. The Carter Center. The Clinton Foundation. Susan G. Komen. World Wildlife Fund. Teach for America. It deserves scrutiny.

Southwest Key is also 99% dependent on government money. It's a public issue. Go investigate.

Also, reports of working for Southwest Key on Glass Door look pretty intense.
